September Meeting - Guest Speaker, Mr Paul Beranger

Thursday September 6, 2018

Monthly General Meeting at AHOC Clubrooms, 23 Rosalie Street, Springvale.  Meeting starts 8:00pm, clubrooms open from approximately 7:30pm.

We are very fortunate to have Paul Beranger as our guest speaker this month.

Paul started his automotive design career in 1968, at Holden’s new Technical centre in Port Melbourne. Here he worked on a range of exterior programs, including the HQ Holden and LJ and LH Torana. He also designed the interior of Holden’s GTR-X sports car, which never made it into production. During his nine years at Holden he worked in GM’s Michigan design studios and visited both Opel and Vauxhall design, during the company’s first global car program, the T car Gemini.

In 1977 Paul left Holden and established a design studio for Nissan Australia, working on a range of local and imported vehicles, before setting up Nissan’s Special Vehicles Division. This produced a range of low-volume performance cars, culminating in the importation and conversion of the four wheel drive R32 Nissan GT-R.

A twelve year stint followed as Design Manager for Millard Design, working on local Holden, Toyota and Ford programs, as well as serving customers in Korea, Japan, Russia, Indonesia, the US and China.

In 2002, he joined Toyota Australia and established a world -class design studio, developing a range of models for the Asia Pacific region and beyond.

Paul retired from full time design in 2012, although still plays with cars, consults and judges in various design competitions.

As well as spending over two years writing Crayon to CAD, A History of Post-War Automotive Design in Australia, he also writes motoring articles for magazines such as Wheels, Unique Cars and Australian Muscle Car.
